Press release - From cold beds to lively holiday apartments
A digital platform that makes it easy to share holiday homes with family and friends: This is how Keey – a project funded by Innotour, supported by Jungfrau Region Tourismus AG, and with strong support from other tourism organizations – can be described in one sentence.
In Switzerland, approximately 600,000 holiday apartments remain empty for an average of 325 days a year.
That means around 195 million cold nights per year. Keey is set to change that. "On the digital platform, owners can easily share their vacation rentals with their own community, family, and friends," explains Marc Ungerer, Managing Director of Jungfrau Region Tourismus AG. No public tenders, no strangers becoming aware of the apartment, no hassle – everything is handled entirely privately. Only those invited can book – personally, bindingly, and in a protected environment. "Control remains with the owners at all times," adds Régis Joly, Project & Product Manager at Keey. In other words: privacy is preserved, and at the same time, life is created where otherwise silence reigns.
Keey handles all administrative tasks. The platform organizes listing, booking, and billing. Owners determine who can book and when, thus maintaining complete control over their vacation rental. Discussions about cost sharing, cleaning, etc. are a thing of the past and can be managed individually. Keey provides structure and security without losing the essence of sharing within a trusted circle.
Since the project launch in May, Keey has noticeably gained momentum: The first milestone has been reached. The platform will be fully available to owners and their guests starting in January 2026. Regular operation will begin at the end of April 2026, marking the start of the next development phase, in which Keey will be continuously expanded and enriched with new features.
The advantages at a glance
Owners bring their holiday homes to life without having to rent them out to the public
Holiday regions benefit from increased capacity utilisation, increasing frequency and new added value
The environment thanks it because no new infrastructure is needed
A big step for tomorrow’s Swiss holiday tourism
Keey is a joint project of committed tourism regions. It is sponsored by Jungfrau Region Tourismus AG and strongly supported by the model regions of Davos Klosters, Gstaad Saanenland, and Engadin Samnaun Val Müstair. These regions cover different structures in the vacation rental market and are representative of Switzerland as a whole. The project is supported by Innotour, the funding instrument of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).
